- 3 steps
Turn in, load the opponent over your hip and throw them to the mat. Also known as the Hip throw or the O goshi. Here is the exact breakdown from the DARCE app: 3 steps, the details that make it work, and the mistakes to avoid.
Step by step
- 01
Clinch up
Secure an over-hook or head-and-arm tie at close range.
- 02
Turn the hip in
Step across and turn your back into them, getting your hip below theirs while controlling the head/arm.
- 03
Drive through & finish
Turn the corner, drive your weight through them and come up in top position.
Key details
- Get your hip lower than theirs before you turn.
- Keep tight control of the head or arm so they travel with you.
- Bend the knees and lift with the legs, then rotate them over.
Common mistakes
- Turning in with the hip too high to load them.
- Losing the head/arm control mid-throw.
- Reaching back for them instead of getting your hips in first.
