Spinning Backfist
- Striking
- Punches
- advanced
- Orthodox stance
- 4 steps
A spinning strike that lands the back of the fist, generating power from the rotation of the body. Also known as the Spinning back fist. Here is the exact breakdown from the DARCE app: 4 steps, the details that make it work, and the mistakes to avoid.
Step by step
- 01
Set your stance
Square enough to begin the turn.
- 02
Coil and turn
Step across with the lead foot and begin spinning, keeping the striking arm coiled and your eyes turning first to spot the target.
- 03
Whip the backfist
Complete the spin and whip the rear arm out so the back of the fist crashes across the target at head height.
- 04
Recover to guard
Snap the hand straight back to your chin and reset your stance, never leave it out.
Key details
- Turn your head first to find the target before the arm follows.
- Power comes from the spin, not the arm, let the body whip it.
- Recover facing your opponent so you are not caught turned away.
Common mistakes
- Spinning blind without re-spotting the target.
- Telegraphing by winding up the arm early.
- Over-rotating and giving up your back.
