Hip Bump Sweep
- BJJ
- Sweeps
- fundamental
- Closed guard
- 4 steps
Sit up, reach over the shoulder and bump your hips to roll the opponent over into mount. Also known as the Sit-up sweep. Here is the exact breakdown from the DARCE app: 4 steps, the details that make it work, and the mistakes to avoid.
Step by step
- 01
Guard with posture broken
Keep the opponent broken down and a hand free to post and sit up.
- 02
Sit up and post
Post on one hand behind you, sit up sharply and throw the other arm over their shoulder.
- 03
Bump the hips over
Drive your hips up into them and use the shoulder grip to roll them over toward their lead side.
- 04
Come up to mount
Follow them over and settle your weight into mount.
Key details
- Post far enough behind you to actually sit up, a short post stalls the sweep.
- Reach over the shoulder, not the head, so you can steer them over.
- Drive the hips into them, do not just pull with the arm.
Common mistakes
- Trying to bump without first sitting up and creating the angle.
- Letting them re-post their hand and rebuild their base.
- Failing to follow the hips and landing back in guard.
