# Stack Pass

- BJJ
- Guard Passing
- intermediate
- Closed / open guard
- 3 steps

Stand and drive the opponent’s knees toward their face, then slide around the stacked legs to pass. Also known as the Stack or the Double-leg stack. Here is the exact breakdown from the DARCE app: 3 steps, the details that make it work, and the mistakes to avoid.

## When to use it

Use the stack pass when the opponent keeps you in closed guard or plays a high guard with their legs above your hips. Posture up and stand before you drive forward to fold them. It shuts down guards that attack with the legs.

## Step by step

1. 01

   ### Posture & stand

Posture up inside their guard and stand or come to your toes, hands controlling the hips.

2. 02

   ### Drive the stack

Drive forward folding their knees toward their own face so their weight loads onto their upper back.

3. 03

   ### Settle into side control

Clear the legs, drop your chest onto theirs and lock side control with a cross-face and underhook.

## Key details

- Drive forward and down so their hips fold over their head.
- Keep your head up and back straight as you stack.
- Slide your hips around the legs once their base is broken.

## Common mistakes

- Stacking with a rounded back and no forward drive.
- Letting their hips come back to the mat.
- Going around the legs too early before the stack is set.

## Common counters

Opponents roll backward over their shoulder, attack a triangle or an armbar as you lean in, or push your hips away to make space. A rounded back gives them all three. Keep your head up, your back straight and your arms tight to your body.

## How to drill it

From closed guard, posture up, stand and stack your partner, then pass to side control, ten reps on each side. Then do three rounds of one minute where your partner attacks a triangle as you stack.
