Isolate the far arm from side control, figure-four it and rotate the shoulder behind their back. Also known as the Double wristlock or the Ude-garami. Here is the exact breakdown from the DARCE app: 3 steps, the details that make it work, and the mistakes to avoid.

## When to use it

Use the kimura from side control when the opponent reaches up with their far arm to frame on your neck or shoulder, or wraps it over your back. Drive that wrist to the mat before you thread the figure-four. If they defend it, the grip still lets you step over into mount or roll to the back.

## Step by step

1. 01

   ### Side control

Control them chest-to-chest and spot the far arm.

2. 02

   ### Figure-four the arm

Drive their far wrist to the mat, sit up slightly and thread your arm through to grip your own wrist.

3. 03

   ### Rotate the shoulder

Keep the elbow tight to their body and rotate their hand up toward their head to finish the shoulder lock.

## Key details

- Drive the wrist to the mat before threading the figure-four.
- Keep their elbow pinned to their ribs as you rotate.
- Block their far hip so they cannot turn and follow the arm.

## Common mistakes

- Letting the elbow drift away from the body.
- Cranking the wrist without taking out the slack.
- Letting them turn toward you to relieve the shoulder.

## Common counters

Opponents grab their own belt or leg to lock the arm, turn toward you to relieve the shoulder, or straighten the arm. If their elbow drifts away from their ribs, they turn out. Block the far hip and keep the elbow tight to their body.

## How to drill it

From side control, drive the far wrist to the mat, figure-four and finish slowly, ten reps on each side. Then work three rounds of one minute where your partner grabs their belt and you use the grip to step into mount.
