# Kimura from Guard

- BJJ
- Submissions
- intermediate
- Closed guard
- 4 steps

Trap a posted arm, figure-four the wrist and rotate the shoulder to finish. Also known as the Double wristlock or the Ude-garami. Here is the exact breakdown from the DARCE app: 4 steps, the details that make it work, and the mistakes to avoid.

## When to use it

Attack the kimura from guard the moment the opponent posts a hand on the mat beside your hip, often to stop a hip bump. Sit up to the side as you trap the wrist. If they pull the arm back, go to the hip bump sweep instead.

## Step by step

1. 01

   ### Wait for the post

When the opponent posts a hand on the mat near your hip, it is exposed for the kimura.

2. 02

   ### Trap the wrist

Grab their posted wrist with your opposite-side hand, pinning it to the mat.

3. 03

   ### Sit up & figure-four

Sit up to the side, thread your free arm over their trapped arm and grab your own gripping wrist.

4. 04

   ### Rotate the shoulder

Fall back to your side, keep the elbow tight to their body and rotate their wrist up behind their back to finish.

## Key details

- Trap the wrist with your cross-side hand so the figure-four can complete.
- Keep their elbow glued to their ribs as you rotate. Distance lets them escape.
- Sit up to create the angle before you try to turn the shoulder.

## Common mistakes

- Reaching for the figure-four before pinning the wrist.
- Letting the trapped elbow drift away from their body.
- Cranking the wrist without first taking the slack out of the shoulder.

## Common counters

Opponents grab their own belt or leg to lock the arm, straighten it, or drive their weight forward onto you. If their elbow drifts away from their ribs, they turn out of it. Keep the elbow tight and take the slack out first.

## How to drill it

Your partner posts a hand by your hip: trap it, sit up, figure-four and finish slowly, ten reps on each side. Then work the chain for three rounds of one minute: hip bump, they post, kimura.
